Wired Security Systems rely solely on wires (cables) to connect each security device to your security system. For example, a cable must be run from your Security System Hub to the motion detector in your upstairs bedroom for it to function as part of your security system. A wired system requires less maintenance than a wireless system, but usually requires more labor time for the installation.
Wireless security systems rely primarily on wireless devices that connect to your alarm panel via a wireless receiver. There are still wired parts to the system such as the panel, siren box and any communications for back-to-base monitoring, however the majority of the system will use wireless devices. Wireless devices would require periodic battery changes (battery's typically last more than 18 months).
